Description
How can life-like properties emerge from simple physico-chemical processes? We have shown that, in a chemical reaction network with many stable states, diffusion and noise cause these states to spread, diversify and compete for space. They can therefore undergo evolution by natural selection and adapt to changing environments. The internship will use statistical physics to explore whether this mechanism can give rise to other hallmarks of life, such as computation, cell-like organization or morphogenesis.
